In the analysis of Obama’s pick of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, there seems to be consensus that this is Obama’s way of inoculating himself from a potential Clinton challenge rerun in 2012.
Really? It may well be that Clinton relishes the international stature this new role. But, say she did still harbor hopes of running again in 4 years. How better to attack an incumbent president than with inside knowledge as a member of his administration?
The consensus is probably correct, if Obama’s admin runs smoothly. But during the Bush years inside critics were given elevated stature by the media. And don’t think Hillary doesn’t know it should she find a compelling issue in which to break ranks.
