RE: Sicko-phant

June 26th, 2007 No Comments

One of the most fascinating features of Moore’s movies is what is revealed by the internal conflicts in his arguments. In Sicko, for example, Moore rightly targets American politicians for their corruption and fecklessness, ridiculing their focus on trivilialities — like wasting floor time honoring the makers of Marshmallow Peeps.
Yet, whom does Moore want empower [...]

Sicko-phant

June 26th, 2007 No Comments

Sicko, Michael Moore’s new doc about health care, is his best movie yet, and probably the most powerful argument that will ever be made on behalf of "Universal Health Care."
Do I think it’s honest, fair, or honorable? Of course not, definitely not, and partially yes.
As usual, Moore’s sins of omission would make the devil blush. [...]

Some of my recent notables…

June 26th, 2007 No Comments

So as not be all negative-like, here are the albums by new bands (to me, anyway) that have stuck out recently (click on the thumbnails to listen to snips from each track):

Dropkick Murphys: The Warrior’s Code (As heard in "The Departed")

Apples in Stereo: New Magnetic Wonder

Brand New: Deja Entendu
OK, these guys sound like Blink 182 [...]

RE: Long wanky album!! Two Stars!!

June 26th, 2007 No Comments

About 6 months ago I posted about how I had really been enjoying Doves "Some Cities" and this album by Interpol. Well now I am listening to the first album by Doves called "Lost Souls."
I am totally blown away. It’s the best album I’ve heard in a long, long time. Incredibly catchy tunes, [...]

Obama will take the High Road

June 21st, 2007 No Comments

The Clinton’s are like pig-pen–a cloud of dirt surrounding them at all times. If you hook up to their train, you’re guaranteed to end up tainted. That’s why Tipper is furious at the Clinton’s. I don’t think Obama would join Hillary as VP because his wife hates the Clintons and their way [...]

RE: Bloomberg Changes Everything?

June 21st, 2007 No Comments

I’m going to register a dissent with just about everything that PRN is speculating about the 2008 Presidential race.
First of all, I think this is an unusually strong group of candidates, on both sides. Even if each of the front runners carries significant vulnerabilities with specific sectors of their party base, they are powerful options.
The [...]

Bloomberg Changes Everything?

June 21st, 2007 No Comments

It looks like Bloomberg may run as an independent with the Unity 08 camp (which I posted about back in March, I think). I thought this statistic was encouraging:
"A poll done for Unity08 found a whopping 73 percent of Americans think it would be a good idea for the country to have more [...]

Hillary Nixon

What a great observation:
"I am surprised that the Politerati, or DC’s chattering class, have not seen the parallels between Hillary Clinton and Richard Nixon. They both have brilliant strategic minds, suffer from extreme paranoia about the enemy of their agenda, and both are extremely secretive. Nixon had very high negatives, and re-launched his "brand" image [...]

The Big Veiled Elephant in the Room is…

The Big Veiled Elephant in the room is…..that no matter what the West tries to do, no matter how politically-correct we become, it will never be enough for Militant Muslims.
In the last Republican debate, Giuliani lambasted the Democrats for not using the words "Islamic Terrorism." He’s right. I wonder what event it [...]

It gets worse than that. Sorry to disappoint Maggie, but Marco is thoroughly convinced he’s going to marry Guiseppe Signori.

…the chance that Maggie Dorr and Quinaby Stine will marry complete losers are probably like 99%.

This presents an unfortunate conundrum for Pat, as Maggie Dorr is quite certain that she will be marrying none other than Pat’s son Marco (she often suggests new honeymoon locations; the most recent is Italy, replacing London).
So, by Pat’s own [...]

The Price of a movie ticket in Tokyo: $20
The Price of a First Class Ticket from L.A to Tokyo.: $8,000
The Price of a hotel suite in the Ginza District: $12,000 per night
Watching a very classy Johnny Depp endure the weirdness that is Japanese television: Priceless.

RE: Total Ah-nuld, Total Bloomberg

June 14th, 2007 No Comments

The article ends up where your mind wanders: Could Bloomberg run for President with Schwarzenegger serving as Vice President?

Technically, they could run, but Arnold couldn’t be sworn in and actually serve without an improbable Constitutional amendment passing first.

But there is talk of Bloomberg running with Chuck Hagel of Nebraska. Not as exciting, is it?

What an exciting article from Time Magazine about NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1632736-1,00.html
It talks about how both men are governing in an out-of-the-box style that bypasses Washington gridlock. They look for smart innovation to solve problems and include the market. They unleash the best that America has to offer [...]

Guys, Be Careful with your Daughters

Scientists believe girls are attracted to men that resemble their fathers (if they were close to them). I think the Oedepal syndrome lives on as many men are attracted to women who were like their mothers.
So that means the chance that Maggie Dorr and Quinaby Stine will marry complete losers are probably like [...]

Russert Mauls Bill Richardson

My goodness…what a mauling of Democratic candidate Bill Richardson by Tim Russert. It’s funny, it’s painful, it’s pathetic. Ouch. Does every guest get this treatment? How would Bush have faired under Russert’s assault. Has Hillary been on the show?
