For anyone who thinks that MapQuest or Google Maps (or Flight Simulator) is pretty cool, you need to download the amazing Google Earth.
Using very detailed sattelite imagery (of urban areas), it lets you take virtual tours of the globe. It’s not perfect: a lot of rural areas lack detail, it’s address locating is off (type in my home address and it shows my neighbor’s house; still cool), and I tried to drive a virtual trip from my house to Kahneeta and it got stuck somewhere on Highway 26. But it’s still in Beta, so it’s not finished, and what’s in there is pretty cool.
I searched for Shatin, Hong Kong, where PRN is at, and it didn’t find anything. But when I went to Hong Kong in general I noticed a Shatian in the same area and clicked on it. The neighborhood certainly looked familiaras I cruised around.
It’s free, but requires a fairly robust computer and internet connection. Hat tip to Bill Dorr for this one.
