It’s been a long while since we talked the nitty gritty of politics around here, but I thought all that hoo-ha leading up to yesterday’s "deal" on judges and the fillibuster was nauseating, but probably not for the same reason that some of the others around here might have. The Republicans should’ve moved on the "Nuclear Option" immediately, with no compromise. You don’t compromise from a position of strength, but you also shouldn’t give your opponents months to whine about it to a sympathetic media.
But what happened yesterday, even though it falls short of what could have been acheived by a more confident majority, may not turn out too bady. It seems that many Republicans are livid with the 7 "moderates" who brokered the deal with the Democrats and are calling for their heads come re-election. This pressure could work out to spur those "moderates," who are generally an unpredictable pain-in-the-ass to the Republican leadership, to fall in line more than they would have for the rest of the term in hopes of bolstering their re-election chances with disenchanted constituents.
